Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils will come against their bitter rivals Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.
Manchester United have been spraying their pitch with GARLIC ahead of their must-win clash with Liverpool this weekend.
Ground staff were out in full force on Friday to spray the Old Trafford turf with the root vegetable, ensuring the grass has a distinctly odd pong for Sunday.
And while it might seem that United are deploying this rather bizarre-sounding tactic to give them some sort of advantage over Liverpool, this is not the case.
The reason for coating the pitch in garlic is to protect the grass from parasites.
The technique has in fact been used by a number of clubs in the English top flight this season looking to keep their ground in tip-top shape.
Solskjaer revealed that Martial is closer to full fitness than Lingard, yet he hopes to be able to call on both men against rivals Liverpool this weekend.
“I hope and think Anthony will be ready and I hope Jesse will be ready because it’s two different injuries,” Solskjaer told United’s official website.
“So maybe more hope than think, with Anthony as well, but he’s got a chance.
“Anyway, we still hope Jesse could be ready. Let’s see. We’ve still got a couple of days’ training left and they need to be part of it.”
