Southampton’s Shane Long broke the record for fastest goal scored in the Premier League on Tuesday when he put the ball in against Watford in just six seconds.
A pass back from Watford off the kickoff went to their central defender, who tried to play a long ball upfield but had his kick blocked by Long. The ball bounced directly into his path and he took a tidy touch and finished over the Watford keeper.
Opta had the goal at six seconds. NBC Sports had it at seven seconds. Either way, it beats the previous record of 10 seconds set by Tottenham legend Ledley King at Bradford City in 2000.
